Is actually quite strange that they did not launch a P50-5G with Kirin inside, and a P50-4G with Qualcomm inside...
since they still have Kirin Inventory, and Kirin was/is 5G capable... Strange indeed.

Let's be honest. Consumer benefit of 5G is so close to zero as to be utterly irrelevant. The only thing it brings is higher power consumption.

This seems a little odd of a line to be pushing, especially by quoting a nearly year old analysis on 5G from 2020.
I live near but not in a metro area (Portland, OR), and I pretty regularly get > 100Mbps down from my T-Mobile 5G phone. It's no world changing gigabit phone, but I would say the speed increase is definitely there more often than not, at least on T-Mobile. Granted, I'll recognize that I'm close to a semi-large metro area, which doesn't hurt, but that IS a decent portion of the population at this point.
Edit: It is kind of funny seeing my comment imposed right underneath somebody at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. I imagine anecdotes (on both sides) only take you so far...

Not having 5G probably won't hurt them for another 2-3ish years. The rest of the issue like software bans will. You can get away with selling budget phones without 5G. But in 2-3 years if none of this works out then that's when it really becomes a dire problem.

It's very ironic that their consumer product is lacking 5G, when prior to the sanctions, they were one of the leaders in providing 5G carrier infrastructure. I don't care if the security concerns were overblown, but I have no moral qualms about sanctioning Chinese tech companies into bankruptcy. Most of them are just fronts for the CCP and they have zero respect for Western IP laws. Passing off HarmonyOS as "totally not Android, we swear" is just further proof of that.

Not sure what phone/carrier you use or where you live but I get 400-500Mb DL speeds on my S21 using T-Mobile in NYC. Better than my FioS.
5G was worse than 4G a year ago but is now very real
